The Free School of Bachata - Free Bachata

Cours de Bachata Libre 19 juin 2026_edited.jpg

The Free School of Bachata, created by Lux Bachata, is a collective and evolving learning space for bachata, based on horizontal transmission, autonomy and collective intelligence.

Inspired by active pedagogies (notably Montessori and free education), it breaks with the traditional “teacher/students” model to offer an approach where everyone is both learner and transmitter, according to their level, experience and sensitivity.

In this school, there is no fixed hierarchy or imposed path. Beginners learn from intermediate dancers, intermediate dancers learn from advanced dancers, and experienced dancers deepen their mastery by passing it on in turn.

Progress is made through exchange, observation, practice and sharing.

The Free School of Bachata is a place where bachata is learned by learning from each other. A school without teachers, without students, but with a community that dances, shares and progresses together.

Golden Rules

The Free School of Bachata is a space of freedom, respect, and sharing. These 10 rules exist to protect this environment and allow everyone to thrive within it peacefully.

Règles d'Or

Learn bachata differently, together

Learning bachata differently, together, means choosing a school where progress is made through sharing, where everyone counts, and where dance becomes a space of freedom and human connection.

In other words, because everyone learns differently.

At the Free School of Bachata, we start from a simple truth: there is no single right way to learn to dance.

Some people learn by observing.
Others by practicing. Still others by explaining to others.

That is why we have chosen to move away from the classic “one teacher, students” model to create a space where learning is free, lively and evolving, adapted to the pace and sensitivity of each individual.

Here, we don't recite steps.
We explore, we feel, we experiment.

Otherwise, because the transmission doesn't come down from above

In our school, knowledge does not flow in only one direction. It flows between people.

Beginners learn from intermediate learners.
Intermediate dancers learn from each other through contact with advanced dancers. Experienced dancers deepen their understanding of dance by passing it on.

Each person progresses by being, in turn, a learner and a transmitter of knowledge.

👉 Transmission becomes a tool for progression, not a status.

In other words, because human relationships come before performance.

We believe that the quality of a dance depends primarily on:

  • listening,

  • of the connection,

  • respect for the partner.

At the Free School of Bachata, there is no ranking, no pressure, no judgment.
The mistake is not a fault, but a normal step along the way.

👉 Here, we learn in a safe, caring and inclusive environment.

Together, because learning is a collective process

Learning bachata is not just about learning to move. It's about learning to dance with another person.

The Free School of Bachata is a community:

  • where we share,

  • where people help each other,

  • where progress is made thanks to others.

Each person contributes to the group's energy.
Everyone has their place.

Together, because diversity is a strength

In Luxembourg, cultural diversity is a daily reality. We have chosen to make it a strength.

Languages, cultures, styles, levels… This plurality nourishes the dance and enriches the experience.

👉 Bachata is becoming a common language, accessible to all.

Together, because enjoyment is at the heart of learning

We believe that we learn best when we enjoy ourselves.
When you feel free.
When you feel legitimate.

At the Free School of Bachata, smiles, music and the joy of dancing are essential.
If the pleasure disappears, we stop, we adjust, we exchange.

Règles d'Or

1️⃣ Lux Bachata and the Free School do not have the same mission

Lux Bachata

  • Offers structured courses

  • Intervenes in events

  • It responds to a clear demand: learning bachata in an organized setting

The Free School of Bachata

  • Proposes an alternative learning model

  • Emphasizes collective transmission

  • It answers another question: how can we learn and progress together differently?

👉 Two approaches, one same DNA.

2️⃣ A response to what Lux Bachata observed on the ground

Through experience, Lux Bachata has observed that:

  • A lot of learning took place between dancers.

  • Progress often came from sharing and free practice.

  • Some profiles did not identify with traditional courses.

👉 The Free School was born from this reality, not from a theory.

3️⃣ Reaching an audience that doesn't (or no longer) attend a traditional school

Some people:

  • they don't dare to enroll in a traditional school,

  • They dropped out of school despite their motivation.

  • They are looking for meaning, not just technique.

👉 The Free School allows these audiences to be included without calling into question Lux Bachata.

4️⃣ Clarify expectations and avoid confusion

Creating a separate entity allows you to:

  • clearly define the framework and rules,

  • to avoid misunderstandings about pedagogy,

  • to meet the expectations of each audience.

👉 Everyone chooses the experience that suits them.

5️⃣ Build a long-term vision

Lux Bachata is an organization.
The Free School of Bachata is a model.

Lux Bachata teaches bachata.
The Free School of Bachata explores another way of learning and sharing it.
They are different, complementary, and aligned.
